Settlements in Saskatchewan

The maps below are graphical representations of the settlement patterns of German communities in Saskatchewan. This project was supported by the Saskatchewan German Council,the Saskatchewan Centennial,Heritage Canada,and the Saskatchewan Lotteries.

The settlement information was taken from a 1990 original graphic drawn by H. Heimann. The information was compiled by Dr. A. B. Anderson,a professor of Sociology at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon,SK. The 2005 enhanced map was compiled and digitized by B. Stehwein,P. Geo.

SGC Immigrant Handbook

Welcome! A Handbook for Immigrants to Saskatchewan,(2009) Saskatchewan German Council Inc.

The book is in German and English,and provides immigrants with a comprehensive and province-wide guide to permanently settling in Saskatchewan. The guide includes essential information for newcomers in regards to immigration,housing,employment,education,banking,and other important areas. The handbook is given out on a demand basis. German Cultural Traditions Books

During the project four books were developed each covering a specific German cultural tradition. The books are written in English and German and contain information about traditions,craft ideas,recipes,songs and poems as well as pictures. Each book can be purchased from the SGC or you can buy them as a set of 4. See Resources/SGC Publications for details on prices.

The four books are:

German Mini Lesson Kit

This kit was developed by Franziska Davies,who was a summer student at the SGC in 2010. The purpose of this kit is to educate students about Germany,who usually do not study German.

It contains various information about the different regions of Germany as well as specific elements such as famous musicians and locations. Franziska included a Power Point presentation as well as arts&crafts and different activities,such as a money game,into the kit.
