Saskatchewan German Council - Membership

SGC currently has 38 member groups throughout the province. Among the member groups are clubs, language schools, dance groups and choirs as well as various other arts, culture and recreation groups. All member groups are entitled to apply for SGC member funding and representatives are invited to attend the annual President’s Meeting and Treffpunkt Weekend.

The Saskatchewan German Council supports the German language and culture in Saskatchewan through member organizations. This section of the website is devoted to information for our members. Funding opportunities, application forms, newsletters and past annual reports are all available.

To apply for a membership, please download the appropriate form. Member applications are reviewed twice a year during the SGC Board of Directors Meeting.

For those who are interested in receiving a Postillion subscription, please download the below form. The yearly subscription rate is $25, which includes 4 printed and mailed Postillion.

Organization Membership

Description:

Organization Membership shall be open to any group or society whose Constitution is in harmony with that of the Council. A copy of the Constitution of the group or society shall accompany application for membership. Voting upon the application of such group or society shall take place at the next meeting of the Board of Directors following receipt of the application of the group or society. A two-thirds majority of the Directors present at such a meeting shall be required to approve the group or society as a member. A group or society so approved shall be declared an organization member of the Council upon payment of the annual fees for the current year.

Benefits:

Each group or society having organization membership may appoint two voting delegates to the Council. Organization members have the privilege of submitting project proposals for budget consideration. They also may access a range of council programs made available to the general membership. Each person (or family) belonging to an organization member receives the SGC newsletter, the Postillion, at no charge; are welcome to attend general meetings; and are eligible for election to the SGC Board of Directors.

Fee:

$50 per year (coming into effect 2020/2021)

Individual Membership

Description:

Individual Membership shall be open to any reputable person interested in the preservation of German culture and who accepts the Constitution of the Council. Voting upon the application of any individual shall take place at the next meeting of the Board of Directors following receipt of the application of any individual. A two-thirds majority of the Directors present at such a meeting shall be required to approve the individual as a member. An individual approved shall be declared an individual member of the council upon payment of the annual fees for the current year.

Benefits:

Each member has voting rights only if elected to the Board of Directors. Each member receives the SGC newsletter, the Postillion, at no charge and is welcome to attend general meetings.

Fee:

$25 per year (coming into effect 2020/2021)

Supporting Membership

Description:

Supporting Membership shall be open to any reputable business, association, or individual interested in the preservation of German culture and who accepts the Constitution of the council. Voting upon admission of such business, association, and/or individual shall take place at the next meeting of the Board of Directors following receipt of the application for membership. A two-thirds majority of the Directors present at such a meeting shall be required to approve the business, association, or individual member. Such business, association, or individual so approved shall be declared a supporting member upon payment of annual fees for the current year.

Benefits:

Input and advice welcome on all German Council matters, but no voting rights. Receives Postillion.

Fee:

$50 per year

Honorary Membership

Description:

Honorary Membership may be conferred upon any individual who has rendered notable service to the Council, or anyone else on whom the council wishes to confirm that status. A two-thirds majority vote in favour by ballot is necessary of those present at an Annual Meeting of the Council upon recommendation signed by one voting member and seconded by another voting member. An Honorary Member shall have none of the obligations of membership in the Council and shall not be entitled to vote or hold office.

Benefits:

Input and advice welcome on all German Council matters, but no voting rights. Receives Postillion.

Fee:

No fee required.

Associate Membership

Description:

Associate Membership shall be open to any group or society that wishes to be affiliated with SGC at arms length.

Benefits:

Same as for organization members except has no voting rights.

Fee:

$30 per year
