Sommerwende – Summer Solstice
J u n e 21 – J u n e 2 2
The European practice of welcoming the summer by celebrating the solstice has been a strong tradition for centuries. The German Club in Regina is proud to introduce this tradition. Join us as we welcome summer by enjoying dancing, music, drink and culinary delights.
June 21 will be kicking off with a Medieval-style Feast, with light entertainment to follow the supper. Our patio will have a bonfire, and Biergarten. The “Prata Incendia Fire Performance Troup” will be welcoming the summer season and performing on our street.
June 22 will start off at 2:00 p.m., with a FREE family portion. This will include street performers, buskers, Summer Solstice Craft Sale, entertainment (both in house, and other cultural groups), kids crafting area, and workshops.
There will be costume contest – both for adult and children. (No pop culture, dress in your best fairy, wood spirit, etc)
At 6:00 p.m. we will kick off the evening celebration. Tickets in advance are $5, tickets at the door are $10. At 7:00 p.m. you better find a front row seat to watch the grant entrance, including Das Volle Lederpaket, Lindsay Cotten, our cultural partner, and German Club representatives. There will be performances, contests, and the “Dustin Ritter Band”.
Of course a large selection of cultural food and drink (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) throughout the event.
Eric Paetkau, music director
Stéphane Tétreault, cello
We kick off our 89th season with a night of big bold music. Opening the evening is a work by Saskatchewan composer Laura Pettigrew, whose music is vivid and colourful and cinematic in scope.
Cellist Stéphane Tétreault made such a huge impression on us last season, that we literally couldn’t wait to have him back. This time he’ll be playing the richly romantic Dvorak Cello Concerto, which pairs perfectly with Brahms’ final symphony.
We complete our exploration of the Brahms symphonies in this special opening night experience. Brahms’ 4th is bursting with autumnal colours, and showcases the orchestra and the composer at full strength.
